“Mabulator” Chair by Carl Malmsten

“Mabulator” Chair by Carl Malmsten

CARL MALMSTEN
Sweden
1940s
Fir, Wool bouclé
38 1/2″ high x 25″ wide x 31″ deep (seat height 15″)

Carl Malmsten was a Swedish architect and designer who advocated the use of Swedish materials and artisanal traditions. Malmsten described the home as “an intimate place for gathering and repose,” and his designs elegantly fulfill that purpose. They possess a timeless style and adaptability.

The fir frames of these handsome arm chairs have the typically restrained curvaceousness of Malmsten’s chairs and sofas. We love the ladder back, and the richly expressive grain of the wood. The cushions are firm, and curved toward the contours of the spine. Recently recovered in Maharam bouclé.

Branded with “CM” on the underside of the frame.
